Colorado Springs
Colorado Springs, Colorado enjoys a well deserved reputation as one of the nation's most attractive metropolitan areas. The second largest city in Colorado, the 'Springs', as residents often refer to it, is an important commercial, military, medical and financial hub for the southern Colorado region.
Blessed with scenic beauty and a mild climate Colorado Springs is a wonderful place to visit or live. The city is known for several natural attractions, such as Pike's Peak and Garden of the God's, and for being the home to the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Olympic Training Center and befitting it's Western heritage, the Pro Rodeo Hall-of Fame.
A visitor can find enough activities to fill an entire vacation, and leave more to see on the next trip. The great outdoors beckon with hiking, biking rafting, climbing, fishing and more at any of the almost 150 parks and wilderness areas, or in the over one million acres of the Pike National Forest. There are also cultural attractions, and art galleries. Not to be missed are the city's diverse assortment of museums, ranging from pioneer and gold rush days exhibits, to the World Figure Skating Museum. Something for everyone, and every interest.
Colorado Springs was the vision of Gen. William Palmer who designed and developed much of the downtown area, ad arranged for the first city park. Thanks to Gen. Palmer Colorado Springs has many wide, tree lined boulevards, all that focus attention on the magnificent mountain, Pike's Peak, at the edge of town. Today Colorado Springs enjoys a diverse economy that includes technology, tourism, and the main offices of many faith based organizations. The military is an important member of the community with the Air Force Academy, Ft. Carson, NORAD, and the headquarters of the U.S. Space Command operating from Peterson and Schriever Air Force Bases.
Residents enjoy a diverse and growing city. The area neighborhoods cover the spectrum, from Victorian era architecture, to the unique town of Manitou Springs, the ranching areas of Black Forest and Falcon, and planned communities centered around golf courses. Colorado Springs is known as a center for amateur sports and the many federations located here help promote significant participation at the club and event level for youths and adults.
